To raise awareness about the human rights abuses, environmental
destruction, and gross violation of civil rights along the US/Mexico
Border and establish our new facility as one that is supportive of the
arts, the RCNV is hosting the “New World Border” traveling art show. “New
World Border” is a collaborative effort from 30 artists throughout the
U.S. to express concern about the US/Mexico Border Fence between the two
countries both the sections already constructed and the newly proposed
routes. Opening Night will feature a special photo slideshow presentation
with Francisco Dominguez, artist and co-organizer of “New World Border” on
the effects of the US/Mexico border wall.

New World Border: Artists Respond to the U.S./Mexico Border Wall
August 5-August 27, 2011
Building a wall not only demarcates a boundary, but it separates and unites simultaneously. A wall is a symbolic rift that reflects a human tendency to define difference, demarcate geography and property. Border walls shore up nationalist identities with erected structures, rhetoric and policies intended to define an exclusive culture of “us”. The people residing on the other side of this shared boundary often become a scapegoat for fears, frustrations, and insecurities. Such is the case with the construction of the U.S./Mexico border wall. It is like a knife severing interconnected neighbors, wildlife, indigenous peoples, and families. The wall inflames hatred and contributes to an atmosphere of vigilantism and oppression. While the US walls off its territory in the name of “security” what is it sacrificing?
New World Border has been on the road for less than a year and has visited sixteen venues, in nine states. Take a look at the schedule so far. Contact us to book a showing.

Greg Kelly is a musician who lives in Gallup, New Mexico and played his song about the US/Mexico border wall at the New World Border show reception on December 15, 2011.
Here’s a sample of the lyrics
On the border with our southern neighbors
There stands a monument to our greed
Built from the aluminum landing strips
Of the flying Gulf War machines
And it rises from the desert
Shrouded in barbed wire and pain
The border of an economic prison camp
Where the poor labor for our gain

Migrant Death Rate on Arizona Border More than Double in Two Years While DHS Plans Expansion of Deadly Criminalization Policies
Arizona- Despite continued claims by the Department of Homeland Security that the number of migrant deaths has reached an all-time low, data show that the actual rate of migrant death on the Arizona border has actually almost doubled in the last two years. This information comes as DHS announces plans to eliminate voluntary removals and criminally prosecute, incarcerate, and formally deport all apprehended immigrants, a move that is clearly spurred by the need to boost detention numbers to justify a grossly bloated DHS budget.
On December 15, 2011, a reception was held at the New World Border show at the University of New Mexico Gallup. Below are some photos of the show and the reception.
